Disc decompression is an alternative to the surgery for a herniated disc. Some types of herniated discs can be treated without surgery. When the disc meets certain conditions, we can go, again with a cannula, a big needle, and we put a little drill through that cannula into the disc and when we get to the center of the disc, we drill a few, we call them “channels of destruction”. What we create is a lesion in the middle of the disc. That lesion is going to create a scarring process. That scarring process, like any scar, is going to retract. The symptoms go away very, very quickly. There is no further need to do anything else.
Now you cannot do this on every herniation. So, many will still need surgery, so we have to evaluate the individual case to say. But it is a great alternative, and then it depends on the person whether or not, and that’s something that they would have to come in, and you’d have to check them, you’d have to do an MRI, I imagine, or X-Rays? We absolutely need the MRI and we need to see what the symptoms are and it’s also very important to know if there’s than one disc that is herniated. Call 813.421.3411 now.
