The Reyes Firm is led by two Florida-licensed attorneys: Edward Reyes, Esq. and Maria Jesús Reyes, Esq. They are husband and wife, they opened the firm in Tampa in 2017, and between them they handle the injury and wrongful death cases that come through the door. Edward Reyes, Esq. — Founder and Managing Attorney

Edward Reyes, Esq. came to personal injury law as a patient first. At 17 he was hurt in a serious car accident, got the runaround from the insurance company, and hired a lawyer who barely explained anything. The chiropractor treating him did the opposite, walking him through every step of his recovery. That contrast shaped everything that followed.

Born in New Jersey to Cuban immigrant parents and raised in Florida, he earned his massage therapy license and opened his own personal injury clinic at 21. The clinic treated thousands of injured people over the years, which means he spent a career understanding injuries clinically long before he argued about them legally.

He started college at 31 with a high school diploma, worked full time while raising two children, and made it through law school without ever treating quitting as an option. He founded The Reyes Firm in 2017. Since then he has completed the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative and stayed active in the Florida Justice Association, the Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers Association, and the Tampa Bay Chamber’s Minority Business Accelerator.

Maria Jesús Reyes, Esq. — Attorney

Maria Jesús Reyes, Esq. is a Cuban American personal injury attorney who has been part of The Reyes Firm since it was founded in 2017. Before she was practicing law, she was the person holding the firm together behind the scenes — operations, case management, hiring, and whatever else needed doing that week.

Becoming an attorney was a childhood dream that took a lifetime to reach. Her late mother used to call her abogada because even as a girl she could stand her ground and argue a point. Life set its own timeline: Maria became a mother at 15, earned her GED at 16, and didn’t return to school until 28, taking one or two college classes at a time while working full time and raising two daughters. A two-year degree took her seven years.

She finished her bachelor’s degree in Communication at the University of South Florida during the pandemic, then went to law school alongside her eldest daughter — the one who made her a mother. Both graduated Cum Laude and both passed the Florida Bar on the first attempt.
